In their ancient world, what could be more symbolic of shear power and strength than a large predator taking down it's prey. Demonstrating the struggle to survive.
The "Bear and Bison" was first discovered on example 017. One of the 9 original keystones.
What developed from that was the more explicit "Bear on Bison". Later, other apparent species were identified.
In these examples the predator and prey are almost always in approximately the same positions. The predator is holding the prey my the side of the head with one over sized paw. The other paw is across the prey's back, trying to pull him to the ground. Also the predator typically has the prey by the back of the neck with his teeth and jaws. This position is the same as a modern Lion taking down a Zebra.
There are recurring examples where the predator looks like a Large Cat. In the context of this project, possibly a North American or Cave Lion, Sabre Tooth or Scimitar Cat.
In the case of "Bear on Woolly Mammoth or Mastodon" the entire Bear or possibly an "Ancient Hunter" is typically, to scale, on the upper neck. But, can be found almost anywhere on the side of the Mammoth. Mammoth young are also represented.
As unlikely as it is, apparently in 263, 266 and others, the predator appears to be the ancient flying reptile, Pterosaur. The prey, a Bison.
Through the "Bear on Bison", this ancient subject was revealed. It made possible the consideration and identification of many Ice Age Megafauna. As unlikely as it is, the recurrence and detail of these unusual artifacts and other circumstances suggest that these stones support this ancient context.

001 Is composed of high silica igneous rock conglomerate. The color varies from vibrant red, orange, yellow to black. It is approximately 7" x 8" x 4". 001 is an example of "Bear on Bison".
Looking at the front view, notice, outlined in red, the Bison. Also, the Bear or Cat, outlined in blue. Both are in positions similar to other examples of "Bear on Bison".
Although worn, look closely at the detail of the Bear's head. Also, notice the fracture indicating the line between the Bison's head and neck and around the body. This is a recurring technique.
Included are the Back and Bottom views.
017 is composed of high silica igneous rock. It is approximately 5" x 6" x 2". It's color is a combination of browns and black. 017 is an example of a "Multi Subject Stone".
017 is one of the 9 Keystones.
017 introduced the subject of the "Bear or Cat on Bison".
Looking at the front view, although worn, notice, outlined in yellow, a Large Cat. Also, outlined in red, a Bison. Look how their faces nearly touch at the top and how their bodies go down the sides of the stone. The Large Cat's left front leg is extended, his paw in contact with the Bison's head. Could they be the headdress of the "Shaman", outlined in green. Notice that the facial features are similar to those of the "Winged Female" on 152. Particularly the nose and shape of the face. Could this be a Female "Shaman"?
Looking at the Back view, although worn, notice the Large Cat outlined in yellow. As in the Front view, he is holding the Bison's head in his paw.
Looking at the Left view, notice, outlined in yellow, the back of the Large Cat.
Looking at the Right view, notice outlined in green, a "Shaman". The face profile on the opposite side, outlined in red, has not been positively identified. Within the context, I suggest a Bear. Notice the radial markings above the the "Shaman's" eye. They resemble markings found on 021.
Included is Detail 3.
158 is composed of high silica igneous rock. It is tan, brown and grey in color. It is approximately 8" x 7" x 3". 158 is an example of a "Multi Subject Stone". The Subjects include are three of the most frequently recurring in the collection. The "Bear on Bison", the "Fertility Stone" and the "Roaring Mother Bear with Cubs".
Looking at the Front view, in this case, just the upper portion of the Bear and Bison are shown. The Bear, outlined in blue, has the Bison, outlined in red, in his grasp, as typical of other recurring "Bear on Bison". Notice the etching technique used to indicate the arm and paw. This, and the specific way the paw is represented, are recurring details.
The Back view shows what appears to be a "Fertility Stone". It seems to show Bears breeding. Notice the Male outlined in blue. The Female, outlined in red. Their positions are typical of other "Fertility Stones".
Looking at Detail 2, although worn, notice the "Roaring Mother Bear with Cubs". Outlined in yellow, is the "Roaring Mother Bear or Cat". The three Cubs are outlined in pastel colors.
Looking at Detail 4, outlined in blue, the profile of a Bear's head. A frequently recurring subject.
Included are the Left, Right, Top and Bottom views.
177 is composed of high silica igneous rock. It is red in color. It is approximately 2" x 4" x 2". 177 is an example of "Bear on Winged Bison".
Looking at the Front view, although very worn, notice, outlined in green, a Winged Bison". Also, a Bear, outlined in blue, who has the "Winged Bison" by the back of the neck typical of other "Bear on Bison".
The howling expression on the "Winged Bison's" face is a recurring detail.
177 was the final straw. It convinced me that these Figure Stones are authentic and represented an Ancient Culture.
Included are the Back, Left and Bottom views.
188 is composed of porous, high silica igneous rock. It's color is varying shades of brown and grey. It is approximately 5" x 6" x 5". 188 is an example of "Bear on Dead Bison".
This is a recurring subject with several good examples. (189, 206)
Looking at the Front view, typical of other "Bear on Dead Bison", the Bear, outlined in blue, is on top of a "Dead Bison" that is lying on it's side, outlined in red.
Look closely at Detail 2, notice the Cubs, outlined in pink, on top of the "Mother Bear's" head. Notice they are in positions typical of other "Roaring Mother Bear or Cat with Cubs".
Looking at the Bottom view, is what appears to be a "Bear on Bison". Notice the Bear outlined in blue and the Bison outlined in red. In positions similar to other "Bear on Bison"
Included are the Left, Right and Back views.
212 is composed of high silica igneous rock. It is light brown in color. It is approximately 3" x 2" x 1". 212 is an example of the "Shaman with Bear on Bison Headdress".
Looking at the Front view, although worn, notice, outlined in blue, the Bear. He is grasping the Bison, outlined in red, in a manner typical of other "Bear on Bison". Also, notice the "Shaman", outlined in green. His mouth, eye and ear are open.
Looking at the Back view, notice the "Shaman" outlined in green. His mouth, eye and ear are closed.
Included are the Left and Bottom views.
The figure of the "Winged Animal" on 266 was obvious. Without knowing what it was, I called it a "Giant Bird on Winged Bison".
When the "Woolly Mammoth" was identified, I considered that this may also be an "Ancient Animal". I searched "Ancient Large Bird". The results consistently included a flying reptile, the Pterosaur. The pictures provided by the search were stunning. Immediately I recognized it as what I was calling the "Giant Bird". The shape of it's wings, head, beak, were all the same.
266 is composed of an excellent quality, high silica igneous rock conglomerate. It has red matrix with lighter red and yellow pieces. It is approximately 10" x 8" x 6". 266 is an example of a "Multi Subject Stone" with "Pterosaur on Winged Bison".
Looking at the Front view, notice the "Pterosaur" outlined in green. Also notice, outlined in red, the "Winged Bison". They are in positions similar to other "Pterasaur on Bison", Bear on Bison, etc. Although worn, notice the facial details of the Pterasaur.
Looking at Detail 3, notice, outlined in green, how the end of the "Pterasaur's" right wing is on the side of the "Winged Bison's" head, it's left wing over the his back.
Looking at Detail 2, notice, outlined in red, the detail of the "Winged Bison", who appears dead. Suggested by the facial details and that he is lying on his side. As in the recurring Subject "Bear on Dead Bison".
Looking at Detail 4, notice, outlined in green, the head of the Pterasaur. Also, notice his head, open beak, eyes, including the nasal hole.
Their shapes are similar to artist renditions and fossils.
Looking at the Bottom view, notice the "Fertility Stone" apparently showing an "Unknown Animal and Bison Breeding". Looking closer at the Male, he looks like the recurring "Unknown Animal" found in 002, 152 and others. Notice the Female, outlined in green.
The Right view appears to show a Bear outlined in blue, on Bison, outlined in red. In positions typical of other "Bear on Bison".
Included are the Right and Left views.

Looking at the Back view, notice, outlined in red, a Bison. Also what appears to be a "Shaman". Not like any other "Shaman in the collection. Note his unusual helmet.
Looking at Detail 1, notice the"Roaring Mother at with Cub". The "Roaring Mother Cat" is outlined in yellow. Her Cub is outlined in violet. Notice that one eye and ear are obscured. A recurring detail.
Looking at the Top view, notice what appears to be the "Unknown Animal", outlined in green. He surrounds the "Bowl" of the "Altar Stone".
Looking at the Bottom view, in any other context I would not give it a thought, but considering everything, does that not look like a "Tyrannosaurus Rex" scull, or something similar? Does it even have the remnants of teeth?
As study continued, it became difficult to deny that some of the recurring subjects looked like animals that lived 13,000 years ago and earlier. One of those animals was the Woolly Mammoth.
318 is composed of high silica igneous rock. It's color is shades of brown and yellow and white . It is approximately 8" x 8" x 4". 223 is an example of "Bear on Woolly Mammoth".
Looking at the front view, notice, outlined in violet, a "Woolly Mammoth". Also, outlined in blue, a Bear. Both in positions typical of other "Bear on Mammoth".
The Trunk and Tusk details are relatively typical of other examples of Woolly Mammoth.
Included are the Back, Right, Left Top and Bottom views.
After reviewing these nine "Bear on Bison", etc., it must be difficult to seriously consider that these stones are authentic. And that this ancient context ever really existed. But this script could not have been written. The cast of characters is unique.
We have tried harder than anyone to disprove this. But the evidence is overwhelming.
While studying example 177, after more than 3 years of scrutiny, we finally realized that these stones were authentic. Seeing the worn image of a "Bear taking down a howling Bison". Knowing right then that it was all real. And thinking about the people who made it.
Example 266, "Pterosaur on Bison" will have to speak for itself. Other than it's detail and recurrence in the collection, all other sources say that the Pterosaur had been extinct for millions of years. The image could have possibly been taken from fossils. But the examples appear too dynamic. That degree of realism would have to come from other sources. It may also be symbolism. Not meant to represent actual scale. But significance. For example the oversized paws on a Bear shown taking down a Bison.
Also, notice that the Bottom view of 266 shows the "Unknown Animal". Like in 152 and others, he seems to be some sort of human/animal hybrid. What is this guy??? You see can now his recurrence in the collection. Must be something.
158 and 316 represent the subtle artistry and beauty of this collection. 158 has retained distinct details showing the Bear's head, arm and paw. The paw detail is noted in several other examples. His grasp of the Bison is very powerful. The "Bear on Bison" view of 316 is a tremendous work of art. It is hard to conceive how it was altered to so softly represent the "Bear on Bison". It also incudes many of the recurring subjects that are common to other "Multi Stones" and "Altar Stones". The Bottom view looks remarkably like a "T-Rex" type scull. The image possibly taken from a fossil.
The increasing "vocabulary" is beginning to tell us about their way of life. And the things that were most important to this Ancient Culture. It also suggests details regarding their religion and the activities they used to survive. Remember this was possibly the Ice Age. The typical winter environment would have been a baron, wind swept, snow covered tundra. With no trees for fuel or shelter. Shelter to them may have been a cave. Or a "hut" made from Mammoth bones and skins. With no available firewood, the portable Lamps and Hearths fueled by Mastodon fat would play a big role in their survival. As the Ice Age ended, forests expanded and wood became more available for shelter and fuel. And the Woolly Mammoth disappeared. Therefore, Grease Lamps and Hearths also disappeared from inland society. Except the Intuits, who continued to use similar lamps and hearths fueled by whale and seal blubber. Here is a link to a short article regarding the the ancient Grease Lamps and Hearths in the WB collection.

So far, everything seems to be running fairly close to mainstream archaeology and paleontology except the "Pterosaur" and the representation of other very Ancient Animals. We don't know what to think about the recurring "Unknown Animal" (152). He may represent their Supreme Mythical Beast. He certainly shows details similar to a human's face. With what appears to be an elaborate mask or other headdress. Typically winged and covered with large scales or feathers. Like some type of flying reptile. Knowing the complications, it can only be described as it is.
